Scottish alt.country and newgrass band, The Dirty Beggars, arrive in America this week to kick off their two week tour – starting at the Pisgah Brewing Company in North Carolina on Saturday, July 19th, opening for Trampled By Turtles. The Dirty Beggars have also lined up shows in TN, ME, VA, and NY – and you can find all the specific dates and details here. You can also download a free track by the band from Soundcloud – it's the song Come Away With Me, from their latest EP, Time To Reminisce – and you can also hear it, and an interview with Pete Begbie from the band, on TIAMS #1423.
Kasey Chambers, from Australia, has announced the name and release date of her new CD. It will be her first solo album filled with original new material since Little Bird, from 2011. Her new album will be called Bittersweet and will come out on August 29th. A song Kasey sings on, by fellow Aussies, Mustered Courage, is featured on TIAMS #1424 (which can be heard this week on US radio stations and from July 22nd on Mixcloud).
English band Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra have released a wonderful animated video for their song, Soleil, which appears on their brand new album, Talk About The Weather. A different track from the album, Small Town Blues, is featured on TIAMS #1424.
Another new video which has been released within the last week is by celebrated Irish band, I Draw Slow and it is for their song Souvenirs, which appears on their latest album, White Wave Chapel – which received a physical release on Pinecastle Records here in America last week. The video for Souvenirs was filmed on location in the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. This is it:
Following on from the unprecedented cancellation of this year's Stan Fest – the annual festival held every year in Nova Scotia to honor and celebrate the life and music of singer Stand Rogers – the organisers have launched a fund-raising campaign to try to help meet some of the $70k costs that the cancellation, due to Hurricane Arthur, resulted in. You can make a contribution to the fund-raising campaign – and receive a “perk” for your contribution – here.
Also trying to raise some money next week – but this time for charity – will be outstanding Canadian musician, Duane Rutter (Waiting Room, Never Bet The Devil Your Head), who is the founder of a 24-hour plus guitar-a-thon, in support of 16 year old marathon swimmer, Annaleise Carr, who on July 25th will attempt to swim across Lake Erie, from Erie, PA to Port Dover, Ontario – a distance of 46.6 miles. Carr already holds the world record for being the youngest person to ever swim across Lake Ontario – when she was 14 – which she did to raise money for Camp Trillium, a summer camp for children with cancer. Rutter played his guitar for the entire duration of that swim too – and will be repeating the feat this time, starting when Carr enters the water in Pennsylvania and not stopping, other than for bathroom breaks, until she finishes her swim. You can find out more about Carr's swim here – and more about Rutter's guitar-a-thon here.
Tracks by some of the artists featured on this page will be on The International Americana Music Show in the coming weeks.
