Awna Texiera, from Canada, releases her sophomore solo album this week. Wild One is the follow up to Awna's 2012 record, Where The Darkness Goes. The new record was recorded in Toronto last year and contains 11 original tracks. Awna is also a member of Po'Girl – one of Canada's hardest working roots bands – along with Alison Russell (who is also a member of Birds Of Chicago) and the pair are going to be releasing a new Po'Girl album at some point, but they are currently working on their other projects. This is the video for the title track from Awna's new record, Wild One:
English singer, StevieRay Latham, released his debut album yesterday (Monday, March 16th). With some very positive advance reviews and some notable supporters, StevieRay sings articulate, thoughtful songs that sound like they were written in – and eminated from - Greenwich Village in the 1960's. He has spent the past few years touring the UK, honing his trade, and his album, Modern Attitudes, is his first collection of songs, some of which he wrote while he was in his late teens. This is the video for the title track:
Another English singer, mining a more alt.country vein, also releases a debut album this week. Hannah Rose Platt, who recorded a well-received EP in Nashville in 2013, returned to the city last year to record her first full-length album. Portraits is the result and it is out today. The 12 tracks, which were produced by Hannah and Michael Bonagura (Baillie & The Boys), feature some of Nashville's most accomplished musicians including Mark Fain on bass and Stuart Duncan on fiddle. Canadian Lindi Ortega released a new song, called Tell It Like It Is, last week. There are no more details yet available about the new album, but this is the lyric video for the new song:
And fellow Canadian, Del Barber, whose latest celebrated album came out last year, has announced a number of US dates.
