The new album from New Zealand roots band, The Eastern, comes out at the end of this week (Friday, Oct 31st). Called The Territory, it features 15 tracks and comes in at over an hour long. It is the band's first since their 2012 album, Hope and Wire, which was another long-player, featuring 20 songs in total. The band haven't released any videos for any of the songs on the new album yet, but you can hear the first single, The Stepping Razor, on TIAMS #1438 and you can stream another three songs from the album here.
A new compilation album of Scottish Americana artists is released this week. Caledoniaville Volume 2, contains music by 12 different bands and singers from across Scotland. It is being released on Medicine Show Records and is the follow up to Volume 1, which was released earlier this year. Both volumes are available to download here and Volume 2 includes tracks by The Galipaygos, Colin Clyne, Norrie McCulloch.
Australian singer, Emma Swift, just released a video of an acoustic version of a song from her eponymous debut EP. Called Woodland Street, Emma says, “It's a song about dive bars, cigarettes, unrequited cowboy romances and sometimes acknowledging that you can't always get what you want but you can get a double vodka with a PBR chaser and that's almost as good.” She was accompanied on guitar by fellow Australian musician, Chris Prickering. Australian blues artist, Benny Walker, has released the first single from his forthcoming album. The single, Will There Be A Light, is taken from a new album due in March next year. It will be Benny's first new record since his critically-acclaimed Saint And Sinners album, which came out last year. This is a video of Benny performing an acoustic version of the new single:
Daniel Meade, from Scotland, has just uploaded a new song from his forthcoming album to Soundcloud. Called Rising River Blues, the up-tempo track comes from Daniel's new album, Keep Right Away, which will be released early next year. The new song – and the whole album – has been produced by Morgan Janig of Old Crow Medicine Show – who Daniel opened for last week in Scotland. You can hear Rising River Blues here. Two Canadian artists have just announced a number of US dates for November.
Matt Andersen will be visiting eight states starting with a November 3rd gig in Philadelphia, PA before he heads to VA, MD, NY, RI, MA, CT and NJ. He then returns to Canada for several dates before coming back to America in mid-December to visit Kansas and Iowa. Matt is touring in support of his latest album, Weightless, which came out at earlier this year. Troubadour, Zachary Lucky, from Saskatoon, will be gigging in the Pacific North West in late November. He has lined up dates in Washington and Oregon in support of his latest album, The Ballad Of Losing You.
